Workforce Development funding has now been granted to the Finance Sector Steering Committee of the Business Services Industry Skills Board. An 18 month project to promote workforce development models focussing on attraction, retention and up-skilling of workers within the Finance sector will commence late August 2007.

Benefits of the project’s activities include:

  • Retention of core industry skills, knowledge and experience;

  • A reduction in the loss of work age people from the sector in SA to interstate roles;

  • Integration of identified new and emerging skills sets into business and into training programs;

  • Integration into schools curriculums of emerging skills requirements;

  • Current relevant career information available to schools counsellors and populations;

  • Increase in participation by mature age workers in the finance sector.

The project will also examine a number of international case studies which have resulted in improved retention of both young and mature age workers and successful recruitment of indigenous and other non-traditional labour sources through innovative career and training pathways models.
